Easy to be deliquescenced. It is very soluble in water and liquefied ammonia and it is unsolvable in ethanol. It is a kind of oxidizer and it will burn or explode when contact with organic chemical objects and sulphur. It will be decomposed to sodium nitrite and oxygen when the heat arrives at 308℃.

Used as the raw material of manufacturing of potassium nitrate, dynamite, picric and dye. It also can be used as a kind of nitro-solvent to make Dye-Intermediates. In glass industry, it   is used as defoamer agent; decolor agent, clarificant agent and antiseptic agent.
